captain fantastic

Fantastic Lighting and our franchisees recognize the importance of being responsible when it comes to our environment. We are open to new ways of improving our impact on our planet and where possible implement and promote new practices which improve sustainability and waste reduction. Small measures repeated many times can add up to large improvements. Below are some of our initiatives and suggestions.

Recycling

New Service - We now offer total tube recycling service

Old tubes can now be 100% recycled - our national service costs $1.10 per tube and guarantees all toxic substances such as mercury do net end up in land fill causing contamination from mercury.

Please see our recycling partner at: www.advancedrecycling.com.au

Our waste product packaging is recycled where possible.

Good quality second hand tubes that are retrieved from lighting installations that would have ended up being discarded are cleaned and then fitted free of charge into Charitable and/or non profit organizations. We improve their lighting at no cost and prevent tubes from going to landfill.

Energy saving

Fact:

One 36 watt energy saving tube produces approximately 153 kilograms of greenhouse gas emissions every year.

De-lamping is the practice of reducing the amount of fluorescent tubes within strategic workplace areas such as hallways, store rooms and in areas that have abundant natural sunlight. In some cases we suggest removing 1 tube from certain twin fluoro fittings and fitting an easily fitted reflector to the existing tube to maximize light output.

Having separate light switches installed within offices to enable unused work area’s to be switched off when not in use for medium to long time periods.

Use of compact fluorescent energy saving lamps to replace high energy consumption, shorter life incandescent globes.

By choosing long life, better quality lighting products such as Spectralux tubes means less associated production resources used and a reduction in the use of toxic chemicals e.g. mercury in fluorescent tubes.

Choosing the right type of lamp/globe for a given application is critical to ensure sensible use of energy. For example, Fantastic Lighting has removed many 400 watt high bay lights in factories and replaced them with twin 58W Spectralux Hi Grade tubes and saved our customers a combined total of many thousands of dollars in energy costs and large reductions in greenhouse gas emissions. Every client who chooses energy reduction where possible contributes to the overall improvement to the environment. Contact us for any assistance on this topic.

Fact:

The energy from an average desktop computer produces approximately 600 kilograms of greenhouse gas emissions per year.
