Environment and Community

Fantastic Lighting franchisees recognse the importance of being responsible when it comes to our environment and the community. We are open to new ways of improving our impact on our planet. Where possible we aim to assist the communities we work in, improve sustainability and minimise  waste.

Small measures repeated many times can add up to large improvements. Below are some of our initiatives.

Lights for Charities

Charities light up the lives of so many.  At Fantastic Lighting we want to give something back by lighting up the workplaces of Charities.  Fantastic Lighting provides free new standard tubes and/or high quality second hand tubes for various charitable and non profit organisations. Our franchisees also provide voluntary labour to replace the fluorescent tubes.

Do you know a charity or non-profit organisation that would benefit from having some or all of their old dull tubes changed to “as new” standard tubes?  They must be a registered charity or non-profit organisation and be geographically located within our franchised areas. This is a free service and the only catch is that we may (depending on our workload) request to do the job after hours or when it will suit our franchisees.

To nominate your favourite charity, please contact us.

Fluorescent tube recycling service

Old tubes can now be 100% recycled.  Our national service costs $1.10 per tube and guarantees all toxic substances do not end up in land fill causing contamination from mercury.

Our packaging waste is recycled where possible.

Good quality second hand tubes that are retrieved from lighting installations that would have been discarded.  They are cleaned and then fitted free of charge into Charitable and/or non profit organisations. We improve their lighting at no cost and prevent tubes from going to landfill.

Enviroment-saving tips

  • Reduce the number of fluorescent tubes in your workplace.  We call this de-lamping… the practice of reducing the number of fluorescent tubes in hallways, store rooms etc. and in areas that have abundant natural sunlight.  In some cases we suggest removing one tube from some twin fluoro fittings and fitting a reflector to the existing tube to maximize light output.
  • Install separate light switches within offices to enable unused work areas to be switched off when not in use for medium to long time periods.
  • Use compact fluorescent energy saving lamps to replace high energy consumption, shorter life incandescent globes.
  • Choose long life, better quality lighting products such as Spectralux fluorescent tubes.  Better quality fluorescent tubes means fewer associated production resources used and a reduction in the use of toxic chemicals e.g. mercury in fluorescent tubes.
  • Choose the right type of lamp/globe for a given application.  This is critical to ensure sensible use of energy. For example, Fantastic Lighting has removed many 400 watt high bay lights in factories and replaced them with twin 58W Spectralux Hi Grade tubes and saved our customers a combined total of many thousands of dollars in energy costs and large reductions in greenhouse gas emissions.
  • Turn off unnecessary lights, including fluorescent lamps.

Fantastic Lighting can undertake a workplace lighting audit free of charge.  We will assess all of the above, provide you with a free trial of our energy saving products and recommend a total lighting solution to help save you money and reduce the impact on the environment.  Contact us to book your free trial today.

Office energy facts

One 36 watt energy saving tube produces only around 153 kilograms of greenhouse gas emissions every year.  To put this in perspective an average desktop computer produces approximately 600 kilograms of greenhouse gas emissions per year.
